Girls’ day celebration

ひな祭り

On March 3rd, Japan celebrates Girls wishing them happiness and health. Being an immigrant mother, I didn’t care too much about this day, even tho I see it every year at the daycare.

This year, I was so happy to celebrate this day with a daughter of my friend who lives in Sydney. On our trip to Australia we decided to visit my friend who moved to Sydney from Japan. Coincidentally, it was March 3rd, and it seemed like my friend prepared some snacks and Yukata to celebrate with my girls.

My daughter was beyond happy to wear Yukata to unexpectedly celebrate Girls’ day. She got super excited and they had a great time.

I drew this photo to illustrate their new start of 1st year of elementary school this Spring. They are surrounded by nature and canola flowers and cherry blossoms as if they celebrate these two young girls flourishing with the new start.

3월 3일이 일본에서는 여자아이들의 행복과 건강을 기원하는 날이예요. 남편도 저도 일본인이 아니다 보니 일본의 기념일이나 행사는 거의 신경을 못쓰고 사는편인데요.

올해는 시드니에 사는 친구의 딸과 함께 이 날을 축하할 수 있어 너무 행복했습니다. 호주 여행 중에 3월 3일에 일본인 친구를 방문했는데, 친구가 함께 축하하기 위해 간식과 유카타를 준비해줬더라구요.

딸이 뜻밖에도 소녀의 날을 축하하게 되어 너무 좋아했고, 정말 즐거운 시간을 보냈습니다.

두 아이들의 초등학교 1학년의 새로운 시작을 축하하며 유채꽃과 벚꽃을 보며 봄날을 즐기는 두 아이를 그려보았어요.
